Nicole Ari Parker has worked in television, film and also on stage. The actress is best known for playing Teri (the spirited lawyer) Joseph. The actress is known under her husband's name, Nikki Kodjoe. Growing up in Baltimore, Maryland she showed an inclination toward acting since the age of five and was awarded an award for the best Actress award in a Maryland high school competition. She received her degree in acting at New York University after working for 'The Washington Ballet Company', as well as in theatre. The family was born in Mumbai, India and raised in Nigeria up to the age of seven. Contractor was well-versed in the world and an array of different cultures from a young age. At the age of seven through nine, she attended boarding schools in London. Her family then relocated to Toronto which she stayed in through the majority of her childhood. Contractor had a great academic career throughout her time in Toronto while also training as ballerina. She was a student at the Etobicoke School of the Arts in Toronto, an arts school which focuses on theatre and dance. Contractor aged 16 at the time she realized that acting would be her future career. She had danced for almost 10 year. After she had completed her high school education, she was awarded an all-inclusive scholarship to the University of Toronto. At the University of Toronto she completed an MA in Theatre, and she also double-majored in Psychology and Sociology. Contractor was offered the lead character in Pericles after a one-year stint at University. The audition was held for the part in the Stratford Shakespeare Festival (Ontario Canada) and was awarded. In 2002, Canadian critics praised her performance in 92 productions of Pericles. She was given the chance to enroll in the Stratford Conservatory, which allows only eight males and four woman for a crash course in the art of classical theatre. Contractor eagerly accepted. Contractor received a guaranteed spot in the following season of productions and was offered the role as Hermia as Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
